    Dhoni and Anand Mahindra in panel to make NCC more relevant

    The defence ministry has formed a high-level committee in an attempt to make the NCC more relevant to changed times. The committee is headed by former MP Baijayant Panda, and has some very popular people, across different fields. The 15-member committee includes cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, industrialist Anand Mahindra, MPs Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (retd) and Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, among others.

    The defence ministry has formed a high-level committee in an attempt to make the NCC more relevant to changed times. The NCC or the National Cadet Corps is the largest uniformed student organisation in the world with over 15 lakh cadets.

    The committee is headed by former MP Baijayant Panda, and has some very popular people, across different fields. The 15-member committee includes cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, industrialist Anand Mahindra, MPs Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (retd) and Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Jamia Millia Islamia vicechancellor Najma Akhtar, chairman of the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry Milind Kamble and Major General Alok Raj (retd), among others.

    Officials have said to TOI, that the parameters of improvement include measures that can help NCC cadets contribute more effectively towards nation-building and developmental efforts in various sectors. The committee will also propose measures for positive involvement of the alumni of the NCC.
