Stock market update: Power stocks down as market rises

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed higher in the Wednesday's session.

Suzlon Energy(up 7.92%), Suzlon Energy-Partly Pd up Right Is(up 7.84%), Jaiprakash Power Ventures(up 5.06%), Reliance Power(up 4.44%), RTNPOWER(up 3.61%), Indowind Energy(up 2.84%), Jyoti Structures(up 2.80%), Transformers and Rectifiers(India)(up 2.67%), Voltamp Transformers(up 2.14%) and CESC(up 1.84%) stood among the top gainers.

PIGL(down 5.00%), Energy Development Company(down 4.12%), Kalpataru Power Transmission(down 2.56%), NLC India(down 2.02%), KPI Green Energy(down 1.51%), KEC International(down 1.19%), Adani Power(down 1.13%), Indo Tech Transformers(down 0.84%), JSW Energy(down 0.69%) and Torrent Power(down 0.67%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 52.3 points up at 18660.3, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed up 144.61 points at 62677.91.

Hindalco Industries(up 2.44%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(up 2.25%), Tech Mahindra(up 1.85%), JSW Steel(up 1.84%), UPL Ltd(up 1.76%), Eicher Motors(up 1.7%), Tata Steel(up 1.66%), IndusInd Bank(up 1.47%), State Bank of India(up 1.42%) and NTPC(up 1.42%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Nestle India(down 1.59%), ICICI Bank(down 1.2%), Bharti Airtel(down 1.06%), Asian Paints(down 1.02%), Hindustan Unilever(down 0.95%), SBI Life(down 0.63%), Hero MotoCorp(down 0.44%), UltraTech Cement(down 0.38%), Britannia Industries(down 0.38%) and Reliance Industries(down 0.36%) closed in the red.
