Stock market update: Nifty Auto index advances 0.37%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a positive note on Thursday.

Shares of Ashok Leyland(up 5.68 per cent), TVS Motor Company(up 2.99 per cent), Eicher Motors(up 1.57 per cent), Bharat Forge(up 1.45 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp(up 1.37 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Tata Motors(down 0.89 per cent), Balkrishna Industries(down 0.85 per cent), Maruti Suzuki(down 0.64 per cent), MRF(down 0.26 per cent) and Bajaj Auto(down 0.21 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.37 per cent up at 13266.15.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 216.5 points at 17542.8, while the BSE Sensex stood down 770.48 points at 58766.59.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 13 ended in the green, while 37 closed in the red.

Shares of Reliance Power, JP Power, Zomato Ltd., Suzlon Energy and Vodafone Idea were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Reliance Power, Paramount Comm, Reliance Infra, Aaron Industries and Rossell India hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while FutureLifestyleFash, Piramal Ent., Future Enterprises, Future Retail and Biocon hit their fresh 52-week lows.
