Kazakhstan holds meeting of unique mechanism to strengthen multiculturalism & pluralism

Central Asia’s biggest and most resourceful state has a unique mechanism named Assembly of People of Kazakhstan (APK) that serves to strengthen bonds and unity among several ethnic groups in the country and preserve its multiculturalism and pluralism.
APK has played an important role in the political modernization of the country and strengthening nationwide unity. This is what President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the XXXII session of the Kazakhstan People’s Assembly, which opened in capital Astana on Thursday.
Kazakhstan is home to several ethnic groups including from Europe and East Asia besides Eurasia.

This is a unique structure that serves to strengthen the unity of all ethnic groups inhabiting the country, the President noted. "We must always be true to this unshakable principle. Not all people can feel that peace and harmony are especially important. For this reason, statements sometimes occur, that is, dubious opinions that the assembly is not needed. In fact, the Assembly is the main institution that strengthens the foundations of our statehood. The APK is a unique structure that serves to strengthen our unity," Kassym–Jomart Tokayev said.

The President added that the Assembly played an important role in the political modernization of the country, strengthening national unity. “Unity, as he noted, is one of the main pillars of our statehood. Independence and territorial integrity of Kazakhstan are above all, the head of state reminded. The unity of the people is inextricably linked with these unshakable values.”

"This is the only way we can build our bright future. Peace and harmony should be perceived not only as a state ideology, but also as an integral part of our social and personal life, work. They should not be empty slogans, but the everyday position of every citizen," Tokayev stressed.

The XXXII session of the APK has a theme titled Just and Fair Kazakhstan: Unity, Stability and Development.

Five deputies of the Senate, appointed by the President on the proposal of the Assembly, are called upon at the legislative level to provide feedback, public control and represent the interests of all ethnic groups of Kazakhstan in Parliament. More than 1,000 people will take part in the Assembly session.
