Hurun power-list: Roshni Nadar of HCL wealthiest woman with Rs 84K cr net worth, Nykaa's Falguni Nayar beats Biocon boss for richest self-made billionaire

Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Chairperson of HCL Technologies, has been named the wealthiest woman on Kotak Private Banking - Hurun Leading Wealthy Women List 2021 on Wednesday for the second consecutive year with a net worth of Rs 84,330 crore.

Under her leadership, HCL backed the purchase of seven IBM products worth Rs 13,740 crore - the largest in the company's history, confirmed the report.

Nykaa founder Falguni Nayar - who had an impressive listing at the National Stock Exchange last November - made it to the second spot in the list with a net worth of Rs 57,520 crore. She climbed to the second rank after being featured in ninth place last year. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon stood proudly in third place with Rs 29,030 crore in wealth.

The Nykaa CEO was also named India’s richest self-made woman and the tenth richest self-made woman in the world. Before setting up the beauty and wellness e-commerce company, Nayar worked with the Kotak Mahindra Group for nearly two decades. Her wealth grew 963 per cent in a year.

Nilima Motaparti of Divi's Laboratories and Zoho's Radha Vembu were in fourth and fifth place with a net worth of Rs 28,180 crore and Rs 26,260 crore, respectively.

The list also included Leena Gandhi Tewari of USV (Rs 24,280 crore), Anu Aga & Meher Pudumjee of Thermax (Rs 14,530 crore), Neha Narkhede of Confluent (Rs 13,380 crore), Vandana Lal of Dr Lal PathLabs (Rs 6,810 crore), and Renu Munjal of Hero FinCorp (Rs 6,620 crore).

In the self-made billionaires' list, nine out of 2 women are aged under 40. Thirty three-year-old Kanika Tekriwal of Jetsetgo is the youngest self-made woman in the list. Former Pepsico CEO Indra Nooyi is at the sixth spot in the Kotak-Hurun self-made women's list.

This year, the list saw 25 new entrants. Narkhede, Sucharitha P Reddy of Apollo Sindoori Hotels, Ruchi Kalra of OfBusiness, Anita Hemant Jalan of Indigo Paints and Badve Engineering's Supriya Badve ruled the top five places.

Three professional managers made it to the 2021 list. Nooyi was named the richest professional manager, with a wealth of Rs 5,040 crore. Renu Sud Karnad of HDFC (Rs 870 crore) and Kotak Mahindra Bank's Shanti Ekambaram (Rs 320 crore) were ranked second and third, respectively.

Nine start-up entrepreneurs made in the 2021 list included Divya Gokulnath of BYJU’s, Kalra, Neha Bansal of Lenskart, and LEAD School's Smita Deorah, who have transformed their companies into Unicorns.

Compiled by Kotak Private Banking and Hurun India, the 2021 report focuses on women who have established themselves in the corporate world. The report also highlights success stories of India’s top 100 self-made or active women entrepreneurs, businesswomen and professionals.

The report also analysed the sources of wealth creation, the sectors they are in and where they live. The cut-off for this year's list was Rs 300 crore, as against Rs 100 crore in 2020. The average wealth of women in the 2021 list is around Rs 4,170 crore as against Rs 2,725 crore in 2020.
