Stock market update: Mining stocks down as market rises

NEW DELHI: Mining shares closed higher in the Wednesday's session.

MOIL(up 4.91%), Oriental Trimex(up 3.91%), Pokarna(up 1.55%), KIOCL(up 0.27%) and Orissa Minerals Development Company(up 0.20%) stood among the top gainers.

Aro Granite Industries(down 2.06%), Gujarat Mineral Dvpt Corporation(down 1.78%), Ashapura Minechem(down 1.62%), 20 Microns(down 1.56%), Coal India(down 1.46%), NMDC Ltd(down 1.35%), Madhav Marbles and Granites(down 1.07%) and Lexus Granito(down 0.22%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 42.7 points up at 17388.15, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed up 214.17 points at 58350.53.

Tech Mahindra(up 1.94%), Infosys(up 1.46%), Tata Consultancy(up 1.45%), Titan Company Ltd(up 1.32%), Asian Paints(up 1.28%), Hero MotoCorp(up 1.1%), Bharti Airtel(up 0.92%), ICICI Bank(up 0.86%), Reliance Industries(up 0.84%) and Cipla(up 0.76%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki(down 2.33%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(down 2.21%), Kotak Mahindra Bank(down 1.78%), Tata Motors(down 1.77%), Coal India(down 1.46%), UPL Ltd(down 1.12%), Hindalco Industries(down 0.99%), IndusInd Bank(down 0.84%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(down 0.77%) and UltraTech Cement(down 0.73%) closed in the red.
