Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.8%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.

Shares of TIINDIA(up 1.78 per cent), Hero MotoCorp(up 1.1 per cent), MRF(up 0.64 per cent), Eicher Motors(up 0.55 per cent) and Escorts Kubota(up 0.23 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Bharat Forge(down 3.33 per cent), Bosch(down 2.82 per cent), Maruti Suzuki(down 2.33 per cent), Balkrishna Industries(down 2.05 per cent) and Tata Motors(down 1.77 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.8 per cent down at 12919.4.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 42.7 points at 17388.15, while the BSE Sensex stood up 214.17 points at 58350.53.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 25 ended in the green, while 25 closed in the red.

Shares of Zomato Ltd., YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, Tata Steel and IDBI Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Navneet Education, Vadilal Ind, Elgi Equipments, Ruchira Papers and Radhika Jeweltech hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while SKP Bearing Industries Ltd., Birla Tyres, Melstar Info, Karda Const and Naga Dhunseri Group hit their fresh 52-week lows.
