Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that people-centric governance and continuous effort towards good governance have been the hallmark of the government in the past eight years, adding that through various schemes, the poor have been given the respect they deserve.
He said a large part of the world is looking at India for solutions and this has become possible because the government trusted in the common wisdom of people and encouraged their intelligent participation in the growth.

"In earlier days, the country suffered because of government-centric governance. But, today in the 21st century, the country is progressing with the approach of people-centric governance," he said, inaugurating a week-long celebration as part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' (AKAM) from June 6 to June 11, 2022.

The week-long programme is part of celebrating 75 years of India's independence, organised by ministries of finance and corporate affairs.

"The world is looking at us with hope and confidence as a capable, game changing, creative, innovative ecosystem," the PM said, adding that it is the duty of every countryman to make a special contribution to the development of the nation.

Providing free ration during the Covid period freed more than 80 crore countrymen from the fear of hunger. "We are witnessing a new confidence among the citizens to come out of the mentality of deprivation and dream big," he said.

On the occasion, the PM also launched the Jan Samarth portal, a credit-linked portal of 12 government schemes, to ensure ease in credit availability to youth, entrepreneurs and farmers. He said great priority has been given to the youth while initiating reforms, counting on the number of startups and young entrepreneurs.

The Jan Samarth portal will be an end-to-end delivery platform, and more people will come forward to avail loans, he added.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said each of the schemes will be displayed on the portal. "This portal is going to make it easy for the citizens as they do not have to ask the same questions every time to avail of a government programme."

On the occasion, the PM also launched visually impaired friendly coins of ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10 and ₹20 denominations, with the AKAM design, which will be part of circulation.

"These new series of coins will remind people of the goal of amrit kal and motivate them to work towards the development of the country," Modi said.
