Stock market update: Nifty IT index falls 0.9%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty IT index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.

Shares of Persistent Systems(up 0.12 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, L&T Technology(down 3.4 per cent), MPhasis(down 2.23 per cent), Tech Mahindra(down 1.82 per cent), LTIMindtree Ltd(down 1.75 per cent) and HCL Technologies(down 1.33 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty IT index closed 0.9 per cent down at 30043.9.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 226.35 points at 17891.95, while the BSE Sensex stood down 773.69 points at 60205.06.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 10 ended in the green, while 40 closed in the red.

Shares of Zomato Ltd., YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, PNB and Suzlon Energy were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Dynacons Sys, Lambodhara Text, Shreeoswal Seeds, Upsurge Seeds of Agriculture Ltd. and Servotech Power Syst hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Kiri Industries, Vikas Proppant & Gr, Indus Towers, Ballarpur Inds. and Aurobindo Pharma hit their fresh 52-week lows.
