Domestic benchmark index NSE Nifty ended 60.1 points down at 16356.25, while the BSE Sensex closed 214.85 points down at 54892.49.
On the other hand, MRPL, Global Education, Vadilal Ind, Hindustan Motor and Zenith Birla stocks hit their fresh 52-week highs today.
In the Nifty 50 index, Tata Steel, SBI, Titan Company, Dr. Reddys and Bajaj Finance were among the top gainers on the NSE in the today's trade.
Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel, ITC, RIL, UPL and Asian Paints were among the top losers of the day.
