Domestic benchmark index NSE Nifty ended 46.65 points down at 18487.75, while the BSE Sensex closed 193.7 points down at 62428.54.
On the other hand, Hardwyn India, Beardsell Ltd, Arvind SmartSpaces, R Systems Intnl and V-Marc India stocks hit their fresh 52-week highs today.
In the Nifty 50 index, Apollo Hospital, Divis Labs, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto and Asian Paints were among the top gainers on the NSE in the today's trade.
Meanwhile, Coal India Ltd, Kotak Bank, Bharti Airtel, SBI Life and HDFC Life were among the top losers of the day.
