Bakra Eid 2022: Railways to run special trains from Howrah to Gorakhpur

To deal with heavy rush, Indian Railways runs special trains during the festive season. This year, the North Eastern Railways has announced that it will run special trains on the eve of Eid ul Adha between Howrah and Gorakhpur. The festival will begin on July 9 evening and end on July 10.
Eid al-Adha, popularly known as Bakra Eid, is one of the most auspicious festival celebrated with fervour by Muslims all around the world. The festival is celebrated worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God.

Expecting a large movement of passengers between West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, the Indian Railways have decided to run special trains. Two trains will run between Howrah and Gorakhpur – 03021 and 03022. Following is the schedule for the two trains:

Howrah to Gorakhpur – Train no. 03021:
Departs from Howrah on Thursday, July 7, 2022.
Departure Time: 23:00 hours;
Arrival Time: July 8, 17:30 hours

Gorakhpur to Howrah – Train no. 03022
Departs from Gorakhpur on Friday, July 8, 2022
Departure Time: 19:30 hours
Arrival Time: July 9, 12:35 hours

Bakra Eid is marked by sacrificing an animal to prove their devotion and love for Allah. Post the sacrifice, devotes distribute the offering to family, friends, neighbours and especially to the poor and the needy. People buy goats or sheep a day prior for sacrifice, on the day commemorating Ibrahim who was willing to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God's command.

A special prayer is offered in mosques before sacrificing the animal. People wear new dresses, attend prayers at mosques and hug each other as an expression of brotherhood.
