Stock market update: Power stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed lower in the Wednesday's session.

Inox Wind Energy(up 5.00%), KPI Green Energy(up 3.22%), GE Power India Limited(up 2.34%), Voltamp Transformers(up 1.61%), Power Grid Corporation of India(up 1.39%), Inox wind(up 1.21%), RTNPOWER(up 1.18%), Indo Tech Transformers(up 0.76%) and CESC(up 0.20%) stood among the top gainers.

Jaiprakash Power Ventures(down 4.61%), ADANIGREEN(down 4.44%), Transformers and Rectifiers(India)(down 3.41%), Energy Development Company(down 3.28%), Suzlon Energy(down 2.99%), Karma Energy(down 2.78%), PTC India(down 2.50%), Kalpataru Power Transmission(down 2.48%), JSW Energy(down 2.41%) and Alstom T&D India(down 2.19%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 148.8 points down at 16858.6, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 509.24 points at 56598.28.

Asian Paints(up 2.88%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(up 2.31%), Dr Reddys Laboratories(up 2.11%), Eicher Motors(up 1.62%), Power Grid Corporation of India(up 1.39%), Nestle India(up 0.9%), Hindustan Unilever(up 0.85%), Britannia Industries(up 0.76%), Tech Mahindra(up 0.7%) and Divis Laboratories(up 0.63%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Hindalco Industries(down 3.44%), JSW Steel(down 3.22%), ITC(down 2.96%), Axis Bank(down 2.85%), Reliance Industries(down 2.66%), Tata Steel(down 2.51%), State Bank of India(down 2.17%), IndusInd Bank(down 2.08%), UPL Ltd(down 2.07%) and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone(down 2.03%) closed in the red.
