European gas surges over 20% as gas leak disrupts supply
The price of European gas futures surged by over 20% on Tuesday as the reported gas leak on Nord Stream 2 pipeline drove the pressure to drop on both pipelines in the Nord Stream 1 natural gas transit system.
The concurrent leaks on three strings of the offshore Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea that occurred on the same day, according to Nord Stream AG, were "unprecedented." The Swedish National Seismic Network revealed that two intense underwater explosions were detected yesterday in the Baltic Sea, where gas leaks were previously reported.
UK natural gas futures for delivery in October soared by 24.60% to 300.000 pence per therm at 5:45 pm CET.
