On May 21, the central government announced a reduction in the excise duty levied on gasoline and diesel to provide relief to consumers suffering from high fuel prices, the prime excise duty on petrol will be reduced by Rs 8 per litre, while that for diesel will be reduced by Rs 6 per litre. While the excise cut on petrol will have a revenue implication of around INR 1 Tn per year for the government
